Do Field skillets work on induction stoves?
Yes! At Field, we solved this with our heat ring—it keeps skillets balanced on glass/ceramic cooktops. At 0.04″ clearance, it maintains full power from electric/induction elements.
What makes Field cast iron different?
Field uses machining to create smooth surfaces like vintage pans, not pebbly ‘as cast.’ We leave just enough texture to hold seasoning while keeping thinner, lighter walls for everyday use.
Isn’t cast iron supposed to be heavy?
Not unnecessarily! We found the sweet spot: 4.3-4.5 lbs for a 10″ skillet. Light enough for easy handling, thick enough for even heating and high-heat searing without warping—just like prized Griswold vintage pans.
Does Field cast iron come pre-seasoned?
Yes, pre-seasoned with grapeseed oil—ready to cook. For best results: preheat on low to medium 2–3 minutes, add oil or butter, then the food. Cast iron releases through heat, not coating. The more you cook on it, the better it gets.
Why are there no pour spouts?
Traditional spouts still drip. Our flared sidewalls work like a spoutless pitcher—smooth, single-stream pours with minimal dripping. Plus, no spouts means uniform wall thickness and lighter weight.
SMOOTHER & LIGHTER: Field Company cast iron is machine-polished using modern methods to replicate the lighter, smoother pieces from the golden age of vintage American cookware. At just 2.2 pounds — our lightest skillet ever — the No. 5 is built for one-handed moves: sliding eggs, folding omelets, swirling sauces. Sloped sidewalls, a first for Field, make the motion even easier.
SEASONING THAT GROWS WITH YOU: Cast iron’s nonstick properties build over time — that’s the whole point. Your pan arrives pre-seasoned with three coats of organic grapeseed oil, ready to cook from day one. The more you use it, the better it performs. No synthetic coatings, no PFOA, no PTFE — just pure iron that gets more nonstick with every meal.
100% MADE IN THE USA: Our cast iron is made in American from start to finish and poured using green sand castings—just like the most celebrated American vintage cast iron manufacturers, Griswold and Wagner.
SIZING & USE: 7.5″ total diameter (rim to rim) 4.75″ flat cooking surface (the actual space for food) 13″ total length including handle 1.5″ wall height 2.2 lbs weight. This extra-small size is ideal for cooking 1-2 servings – think 2 eggs, a single omelet, or a quick weeknight sauté in a smooth cast iron frying pan.
COOKING WITH CAST IRON: Preheat on low to medium for 2–3 minutes, add fat, let it heat, then add food. That sequence—plus seasoning that builds over time—is what makes cast iron naturally nonstick. The more you cook on it, the better it gets.
WORKS ON ALL COOKTOPS & GRILLS: Compatible with all burner types, including induction, glass, and ceramic — a lightweight, smooth cast iron frying pan built for every kitchen.
