Solved My 5-Flash Error Instantly — Perfect Fit!

After replacing the sprocket gear on my older Chamberlain opener, the motor would only jerk and stop with a five-blink error light. Turned out the original RPM sensor had failed (not uncommon when the motor’s been removed). I ordered this replacement sensor and it was a perfect plug-and-play fix.

Installation was super simple — one screw, one small plug, and you just make sure the slotted black disk passes cleanly through the U-shaped gap. Took maybe five minutes total. As soon as I powered up, the opener ran smoothly in both directions and stopped perfectly at the limits.

If your unit hums, jerks once, and flashes the LED five times, don’t waste hours chasing adjustments — this sensor is the fix. Great price, fast shipping, and now my 20-year-old opener works like new again!

After extensive internet research on my garage door issues and all adjustment efforts failed this was my last resort before calling in a door technician. This literally only too like 10 minutes to install. Got my door working properly again. My issue was the door would close then go right back up, adjustments didn't fix the issue, no light flashing. This part comes attached to a new tiny black plastic backer plate. I didn't use the new plate, it just un clips from it. Super easy to do. Just unplug your door opener before working on it. Youtube was very helpful and the video was short.

My Chamberlain garage door would no longer close. It would travel about 10"-12" then reversed. Trouble shot with opener manual to diagnose the flashing light on motor which indicated RPM sensor bad. This RPM sensor Part # matched my Chamberlain part #. Fast and real easy install in 10 minutes. Hardest part is removing the cover and not losing the 6 screws, which means it wasn't hard at all. Works like a charm.

Holes don't line up correctly causing binding of sensor wheel

I was wondering why this was a frequently returned item, but now I believe that I understand why this item gets returned. While the piece appears to be correct in every way, when installed on the opener, the RPM sensor wheel rubs and binds the sensor on the circuit board. Thinking that this may be an issue with the new mount, I test fit the old board on the mount and there is plenty of clearance for the sensor wheel. After very careful examination, you can see that the holes in the old board are aligned slightly different than those on the new board, causing the binding to occur.

My guess is that this is a QC problem as the tolerance is probably 1mm to adjust the alignment properly.

I have an ancient Craftsman electric garage door opener – no idea of the model or date it was installed. Having replaced he plastic cog all was well until the door started juddering up and down. A quick online review showed the sensor needed to be replaced. Took a while to get from the US but it came eventually. Easy to fit and my garage door works again.
