How to Set Up Your Atomic Clock
There is a Time Zone switch with four positions P, M, C, and E at top left corner of the movement. The time difference between these four time zones and Greenwich Mean Time are P (-8), M (-7), C (-6) & E (-5) respectively. Please slide the switch to the position corresponding to your time zone.There is a DST switch at top right corner. When you slide the switch to ON position, the daylight savings time is automatically detected and adjusted. When the switch is at OFF position, the time shown is Greenwich Mean Time. Slide the switch to OFF position if there is no daylight savings time in your area.Insert one AA alkaline battery (1.5V, not included) into the compartment (1) on the back of movement, making sure that the polarities match those shown in the compartment.After the battery is inserted, within 5 minutes the hour and minute hands will move to the 12 o’clock standby position. The clock will search to receive the radio signal. If the signal in your area is strong, within 3 to 12 minutes the clock will set itself.Due to atmospheric conditions, the signal is often strongest between midnight and 4am. The clock runs and receives the radio signal every odd hours (i.e. 1am, 3am, …, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, …, 9pm, 11pm) automaticallyTo maintain its accuracy. If the clock does not receive the radio signal for 24 hours, at 1am, it will advance to 12:00 position and stops all hands to receive the time signal.If there is no signal, the clock should be moved on to another location and the reset button should be pressed. In order to receive the signal, keep trying locations until a signal is received.
How do atomic clocks work? How does my clock automatically adjust to daylight savings time?
Your clock has a movement that receives radio signals sent from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) radio station WWVB. After receiving the signals, your clock synchronizes with the most accurate atomic clock in the USA.
What should I do if my clock will not synchronize at all?
If replacing the battery doesn’t work, take the clock outside on a clear night. Remove and reinsert the battery to force it to search for the signal again. If the clock works outside, you may have a local interference problem in your building.
How do I improve signal reception?
Reception will improve if the clock is placed near a window. DO NOT place your clock near power source or other household electrical appliances. You can try pressing the “REC” button at back top side for 3 seconds for the hour & minute hand to reset.
How do I set the time manually on the clock?
Press and hold the “M.SET” button for 3 seconds. Press “M.SET” button to advance the minute hand by 1 minute each time; or press and hold for the minute and hour hands to start calibrating until you release the button. Then Press the “REC” button.
