The vigil lamp is a candle burning lamp that is placed before an icon as a reminder that Jesus Christ is the light of the world and illumines our souls.

The vessel holding the oil is a cup usually made of heat treated glass. BE CAREFULL to fill the glass at least with 50% water, otherwise it will heat up and eventually brake
